ABOUT ROCHESTER, NY UNSOLVED

Rochester Police Department

The Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit is committed to honoring all of its citizens by relentlessly investigating murders committed within our City. Solving and successfully prosecuting a murder cannot be done by the Investigators alone.

It requires assistance from all involved in the criminal justice system. Often the most critical component is help from community members. It is our hope this venue will provide a forum for citizens to provide information that will bring at least some resolution for victims’ families.

From 1969 to 2021 the City of Rochester has had over 2000 murders, with over 500 remaining unsolved. Investigators stand beside the families, and together we never forget the victims. In 2021 the Rochester Police Department created the “Rochester’s Unsolved” website with two goals in mind:

  1. To bring attention to unsolved murder cases in an attempt to identify, apprehend and successfully prosecute individuals who have taken the life of another in our community.
  2. To provide a forum for families to honor and remember loved ones who have been murdered by sharing photographs and eulogies on the site.

A victim of murder is never forgotten by the Rochester Police Department. Investigators within the Major Crimes Unit are always seeking new information to bring closure for the victim’s family. We hope that this web site serves as another tool for us to bring justice to a family.
